Mac OSX version needed badly!

Please, when can we see an OSX version?

the mac osx version is

the mac osx version is actually finished. it has a show-stopping bug though, which makes the track panel think time is flowing backward (a 64-bit integer problem in osx gcc i think)

now we've got ourselves a G3 for X-mas (no USB, little RAM etc). to compile ZS4 on that machine takes approximately 50! times as long as on my linux "gigabox" with 1 gig of memory and a 2+ gigahertz processor.

even my windows box is 10 times faster than the G3.

I've come to accept, though, that osx is by far the most easy to use system i've come across in my life time. given a "crowd" of let's say 50 mac users i'd bite the bullet and suffer through fixing ZS4, even if it is on my sooper-slow G3... :)

here goes osx

there is a (tentative) alpha version there now for the mac (os x). it is a straight port from linux/win32 and thus has the following drawbacks.

  • it does not know how to read or write *.mov files. you may have to build and use mplayer/mencoder to convert files to the required i420/mjpg/mpng avi format that zs4 reads natively. you also may require a 3rd party utility to to the final encoding of you movies. Quicktime does appear to play back zs4 output files, if encoded as i420.
  • compared to linux, the download/executable files are double(!)-sized. mebbe some kind of "fat" binaries?
  • i only have a pre-USB G3 with a teaspoon of RAM. as a shot into the blue, i recommend a G4 with at least 512MBytes of RAM for use.

i hope this will inspire somebody to try it out on a mac... (mebbe somebody wants to buy me one:)

Mac osx for Intel

Any chance of a port to Intel based Mac?
