Linux vs Windows performance

I will hopefully be reformatting my PC by the end of the week and will be installing a dual boot of Win XP and Ubuntu.

I was just wondering, how is performance in ZS4 in linux, compared to windows?

And will I have many issues with different file types and such? I have never actually installed a distro of linux before (but have played around with the live cd functionality of ubuntu) so I'm really in the dark here.

It's just that doing pretty much anything in ZS4 is slow as hell on my PC :(

Ok, so after about a week

Ok, so after about a week of screwing around, I managed to get Ubuntu up and running. I had trouble installing ZS4 but I downloaded a different package, extracted everything manually, and set up an icon on the desktop. I feel like a linux pro already! :]

I have yet to edit any video, so I'm still not sure what kind of advantage it will give me in the speed department, but Ubuntu is only utlising 183mb of RAM, with only FireFox running, compared to 500+ in Windows, so that will no-doubt give me a better experience.

I'll get back to you guys when I get my hands on some footage.

Ok, so I have some footage

Ok, so I have some footage but now I'm having trouble importing it into zs4... I've used it in Windows without any trouble but it just doesnt seem to do anything when i import it in linux...
