i want to view the final video (the chroma key will be removed) as i am in front of the green screen.
i mean, i want to see the result live, before i record it in a video file (like the weather broadcast).
is it possibe with this program?

Id like to be able to see the final product before i render it as well. i do not see a way to do this. i did stumble onto a way for the progrm to create a lo res preview but i don't recall the exact steps. as i am only using the program for short chroma key scenes i've no real problem with just rendering and then playing in WMP.

There is a lo res pre view button on the tracks view (lower right section)

you are right, i found it.

I too had ( and still has !) the same problem you had mentioned, I mean the black screen  as the media Mixer output. There is a small arrow beneath. When I click on the arrow I see the foreground video. But both the mediamixer traclk on the right and the final output panel on the left show black screen( mediamixer track  shows the black screen both before and after  applying the chromakey  )

I had actually followed the directions given by video tutorial posted by WMS3which only helped me to come this far. But I am curious to know how you managed go beyond that to achieve the results , by following the steps outlined in the video. Wonder there is any setting tweaking that is required. Did you do anything like that?

Sorry, the only help i can offer you is my posted tutorial. Ive done two chroma key clips using the steps in my own tutorial and they both worked. good luck!

You should try this next:
import the movie, open the f/x tab, go to video effects/pixel filters/keying filters, and drag "rgb similarity" onto the video track. Then if you need to adjust color and size do it in vars tab.

I tried the RGB keying
suggestion but it  needed a lot of
tweaking and even then the end the
results obtained were not quite satisfactory :-(

In the meanwhile I managed  to get some reasonably good results by  adjusting the Source opacity and Output opacity
. This is what I did.

I have also included  in the notes 
below  the steps mentioned in the
video tutorial, apart from my own findings so that the explanation  is complete.

( sorry, guys, 
this might appear to be a little long-winded!)

Firstly, , I used  two 10 seconds  video clips , the foreground showing some actors
  against a green back-drop and a background shot
of  an open country side. Both were shot
using a SONY Digital 8 Handycam.
These were captured using a PixelView
PlayTV Pro capture card ( Conexant
capture). on my Pentium 4 PC. 

A. First:

Launch ZS4>project>browse>select
(give location) >save. The path appears on the top.

B. Next:

1. New>File>select the background file
   >wait or the video and then the green arrow  to appear on the top track>drag the
   green arrow on to Media Mixer - the video appears on the Background track.
2. Same  for
   the foreground > drag it again on to the Media Mixer , making sure that
   it is still selected ( red box) .(  If by mistake the Background is selected
   ( red box)   when the Foreground is dragged and
   dropped  on the Media Mixer, it  will appear only below the Background,
   and not above as it should )
3. Media Mixer>Select foreground ( red) >f/x >video
   effects>pixel filters>keying filters> yuv/chroma key> drag it
   on to the red ‘foreground’ track
4. The foreground is automatically shown in the
   current view  >click on the  colour selector green square button at
   the bottom >draw a rectangle with the mouse on the green back
   ground>the top right  square now shows
   the foreground with chroma key and the top left square shows , well, a
   black rectangleL
5. Projects>select foreground ( red  ) >vars>drag to right   ‘source opacity’ to 95% green, 5% yellow
   ( approx) . The foreground starts to appear on the black back drop on the
   Mixer windows on right and left top.
6. a.) Project>background.(red)>Vars>’source
   opacity’ (95% green, 5%yellow )
   b) Increase ‘output opacity’ from 50 % default to 75% green, 25% yellow.
7.  Project>select media Mixer (red)
8. Export>fps=30, change 576 to 480, no further
   tweaks. Export>filename(browse& select)
9. Again Export>Progress tab>Select codec>
   ‘motion jpeg’ (linux/mplayer)>enter>no tweaking>enter>Progress
   bar shows processing. The output  movie is played out on the screen on the
   right.

Now
go to the t@b folder ( wherever that is located in your machine)>Export
folder>dated file> double click to play the movie.

I tried it with both Media Player 10 and the VLC player ( which I like better  ) and the output file  played out well on both. The quality of the
back ground and foreground was also  good.

C. Alternative approach :

I tried again,  now  with
a still back ground instead of the  video
clip as background. I omitted Step 6 (a) & (b)  above.

The result showed the moving foreground
quite  well, against the fixed background.
Also while processing,  the Media Mixer
output remained  frozen on one frame,
though the output clip played out okay.

However, since the frame size
of the background still image was larger than the foreground  frame size, there  was a centred picture-in-picture effect  , though the chroma-keying of the foreground
was good.

D. On the flip side:

The video frame size I got   in both cases above is only  a quarter of the screen shown in the ZS4 s/w
( i.e ½ the length and ½ the width), with a black band all around, filling up
the rest of the screen! It  maybe  because of the capture settings I have adopted on my TV card
viz;  320 x 240 . I need to check these
out.

kar2nist, there should be a "rgb similarity" effect and a "rgb key" effect in the keying filters folder. Did you drag the "rgb similarity" effect? That is the one that works for me most often with great results. Also go to rectangles and you can resize the video so it won't look like pip. Hope this helps.

I should clarify something. I have been using the"rgb similarity" and the "yuv/chroma key" effect. I drag the "rgb similarity" effect first and do the twedking needed to get a decent picture. Next I drag the "yuv/chroma key" effect onto the track. I hope this cleared up any confusion.

I am afraid I used the 'rgb' key and not the 'rgb similarity' key. I will try out  both the rgb similarity and yuv chroma keys together as you did.
But having said that,  the method I used gave me excellent results, though! Anyway thanks for the tips!

I am sorry but that didn't give me much joy. On the other hand what I had outlined earlier gave very good results. I got around the PIP problem by selecting the Media Mixer in the left panel ( red) > Properties>video dimensions> change to 320 x 240 > update and that was it! I was originally planning to change the capture frame size to the default Properties dimensions and re-shoot the videos, but this method saved me re-shooting!
